After two days off from blogging, I now have a journal full of potential posts. My original intention for today’s post was to 1) discuss balancing my passion for blogging with the rest of my world, and 2) provide my views on making money with your life passion.
After crafting and drafting the first version of this post I realized there is too much content for a single post (I am part of the short post fan club).
So….
The “How To” pieces of my post will have to wait for another day. Today, as I return to the online world, I share with you some of my creative writing.
It’s about giving your authentic self to the world while being open to embracing and accepting what the worlds sends back in your direction.
This is my written expression of my Giving and Receiving drawing. There are no filters. I did not edit the original words. It’s past midnight so there may be typos. I dare to send these words out to the universe and look forward to their return.
Giving and Receiving

My energy is always changing colors and form
as it dances across the land.
Like colors blending on a palette,
my energy reacts differently with each color,
with each soul, with each experience.
Sometimes my energy
is a direct source of light.
Sometimes it lingers.
Sometimes it fades.
Many layers. All authentic.
It’s a give and take relationship.
I am light. Shining.
Growing. Expanding.
Sometimes I hide.
Sometimes I dance across the summer star lit sky.
My energy is universal. Fluid. Alive.
It radiates through me. Around me. Beyond me.
It flows across the prairies, over the mountains,
beneath the ocean to the beaches of the next shore.
And in the waves, within the wind, my energy returns to me.
It is safe, protected, and nurtured.
I am financially supported.
The currency is a celebration of my contribution to the world.
It’s a gift that wants to be opened. A gift I embrace.
Giving and Receiving. Receiving and Giving.
All this money is flowing towards me.
I am appreciating. I feel gratitude.
Daring to expose my gifts.
Daring to reap the rewards.
Money is flowing. Dancing. Singing.
Pouring. Soaring. Roaring.
And in the center, my authentic self still stands.
Braving. Craving. Paving…
Paving the next path to the edge of the unknown,
so once again I can fly.

That expression feels very poetic, Stacey. And, it feels like I’m walking through this journey with you, or with me. That I’m aware of the energy in your (or my) life. In each stage. You have written this very well. And the other thing is, when I read it in conjunction with looking at your drawing, it all has more meaning – both the picture and the words. Together they are a powerful combination.
You give a lot of assignments…(that’s ok!)
I feel that making money with your life passion is great. On the other hand, if you follow your life passion and don’t make money, that can still be great (think Mother Theresa). For me, the key is that I have lived my life with intention and purpose. And if that leads to financial security, that’s great. What is greater, though, is that I’ve lived my life on my own terms. That I’ve allowed my heart to sing!
That said, I love how your expression helps to manifest getting from your passion to a passion that supports you in your life.
Thank you, again, Stacey. I’m leaving hear thinking more about where my passion can lead me. In fact, just yesterday I had an opportunity present itself for a change in “career”. After some soul-searching, I came to the realization that, while financially a good decision, it does not take me any closer at all to fully realizing my passions. And, with that thought, the answer was easy…

@Lance – I agree 100% that if you follow your passion and don’t make money that it can still be great. Camping/hiking/wilderness adventure, for example, is one of my life passions. It’s not thinking like Mother Theresa, but camping won’t be a profit center for me (unless I offer life balance camping retreats). Hmmmmm.
I‘m trying to get people to think…Am I not making money using my life passions because I don’t want to, or am I not making money using my life passions because I’m blocked, full of fear, and don’t know where to start.
I’m living my life passion, but not yet fully able to achieve that financial part of it. I feel at peace though, since I am doing what I love to do. The money part is only an invisible force to keep me going..
Your post will linger in my thoughts for the next few days.
I feel very ambivalent about making money in general, but I feel a sense of responsibility to my family to earn and I’m lucky to have a paying job that is in line with my values.

Yes I do believe in making gobs of money, being deeply fulfilled and completely free all from doing work that I deeply enjoy. I know it’s possible because I am in the midst of it. This needs to be my standard. Even the days where I miss the mark I’m still far better off then when I did uninspired work.

I’ve always been trying to make money with my passion, but “helpful” people told me that it’s awfully hard and so far I made it to be true. So I am unlearning it, among many other things I’m unlearning.
But I am very hopeful. I have much to offer to the world, thankfully. 🙂

I think the key is to find the most effective career path that keeps all your life buckets in balance — mind, body, emotions, financial, relationships, fun.
I think an unhealthy path is to try to turn your passion into your profit if it’s at the expense of the rest of your buckets.
The other issue to be aware of is that if you get paid for what you enjoy, eventually you lose the intrinsic value and it becomes externalized (it’s the “over-justification” effect.)
That said, I’m a fan of working where you can unleash your potential, live your values, and focus on you strengths and passions.

I think to go with your passion is the best way to make money and this is perfectly good. I see money as neutral. It is not bad or good. It is a kind of virtual energy created by men. You can do very good with this potential energy or bad. It depends on the doer.
Also to earn money means to generate value. Value for other people.
And finally to be intelligent – or better not to be stupid – in that way, that you give value and you get value back. You give and then recieve. That is also a law of nature.

@J.D. – I love the concept of “life buckets”. I used to call them balance buckets and now think of them as flowers within your life balance garden. And I agree that it is an unhealthy path to turn your passion into your profit if it’s at the expense of life balance.

Ah, good question Stacey. I want to believe I can make money from my life passion (or two life passions – writing stories and traveling) but in my heart I have trouble believing it. I think this manifests in me letting lots of things get in the way of my novel because in my heart I don’t see there will be reward for my efforts and maybe I’m subconsciously putting off the disappointment.
Crikey, how’s that for honest! Now I just feel scared. is that progress?

@Kelly – I love your honesty. I think writing about your fears (in public) is progress. What if you decide to be scared and do it anyways? Would accountability work? If you want, I’ll commit to checking in with you on a regular basis to see if you have written a paragraph or a page of your novel. I will commit to read your novel at the end of your journey and will wait anxiously until it is published. I also wonder what your intentions are for your “reward for your efforts”. What kind of reward are you looking for? Can you vision your success?
I recently read an old but great post by Steve Pavlina about making money. I know it’s easier said than done, but this is part of what he says (he is referring to making money with your blog, but I think you can apply it anything)…
“If you want to succeed, you must be congruent. Generating income from [your blog] is challenging enough — you don’t want to be dealing with self-sabotage at the same time. It should feel genuinely good to earn income from [your blog] — you should be driven by a healthy ambition to succeed. If [your blog] provides genuine value, you fully deserve to earn income from it…It’s about balancing your needs with the needs of others…If you’re going to do this, then fully commit to it. Don’t take a half-assed approach. Either be full-assed or no-assed.”

Wowww Stacey, This post blew me away. It cut through to the depths of my soul and to the core of my heart. I feel high, this was a true drug of inspiration. I think following your passion is one of the greatest things we can ever do for ourselves. We deserve happiness, we deserve to do what we want to do and express our creativity in any way we love.
Somehow, I just feel that if we are truly deeply connected to the Universal force we will not want. I agree with Dave Jones.

And yes I want to make money with my passion.
Studying these passed three years for that very reason.
It is scary and sometimes I believe I can sometimes not.
Alot of other parts of life always seem to take center stage.
And that’s the challenge I guess for me. Getting those things out of the way. And that is a big change for me.
