How Writing Down Goals Changed My Life

Writing down goals changed my life and it continues to improve my life every day. Last year, I wrote down the following goal…

I want to collaborate with successful and inspiring women.

The power of these written words drew amazing, successful, and extremely inspiring women into my life. Through TwitterMoms, I recently met and interviewed mompreneur Chandra Clarke, one of the founders of Scribendi, which is a professional editing and proofreading business that helps writers reach their highest potential.

Chandra inspired me to write down my BIG goals for finding even more authentic space in my life to pursue my BIG dreams. She told me to “go big or go home”. So before getting off the phone with her, I wrote down the following goal…

My goal is to find even more time to pursue my life coaching and social media coaching business.

I sat with my new goal for many days and then took action. In December, I asked my manager if I could start working 4 days a week instead of 5 in 2010…and he said YES!

I asked.

He said yes.

I now have more time in my life to pursue my life coaching and social media coaching business.

I now have life coaching clients! I now have social media coaching clients!

I’m now living my dream!

I’m living my dream because I intentionally wrote down my goals, which led me to listen to my natural inner wisdom.

Thank you Chandra.

Chandra also gave me the following advice as a working mom to help me push my mompreneur dreams up a notch…

  • Create a detailed vision of success, otherwise it’s harder to get there.
  • Book speaking engagements to meet clients.
  • Hire an intern to free up your time to do the things you love.
  • Remember short term sacrifice is worth long term goals.
  • Take risks with your business.
  • Routines help you stay focused.
  • When starting a business, start with the end in mind.

Chandra loves working with mompreneurs to help them meet their communication and marketing needs. You can find Chandra at…

Congratulations! And what an inspiring story! There really is nothing like having a written goal to drive and motivate you. A goal becomes more ‘real’ and obtainable when it’s on paper.

Hi Stacey,

I LOVE that – “go big or go home”. It reminds me of a plaque I have on my desk that reads “Dream BIG”. Let’s face it, it doesn’t cost any more to dream big than it does to dream small, so why not?

Happy 2010 to you and yours.

Mimi – Thanks. It’s been a long journey and I’m excited to see where my adventures will lead me. My passion is to help women create space so they can listen more to their natural inner wisdom. Coaching is the best venue I have found for this exciting and life changing experience.

Heather – A goal/dream does become more real and obtainable when it’s on paper. I just wrote down (and blogged) about a dream for my children and I’m looking forward to watching that dream come to life!

Goals are essential, they keep your mind focused on the job at hand, they direct you and keep you on track. The main caution I have with them is when you set the bar too high, and if you fail at them you tend to get really dismissive and deflated. Always set reasonable goals.
