I roasted veges in my kitchen many evenings this week.
This was my first official week inside the Mamavation Sistahood and let me tell you, being part of this incredibly supportive online community did wonders for me. For the first time in over six months, I spent an entire week eating healthy, drinking more water, and consciously moving my body more.
Support was always available to me every time I looked at the computer. I received support when I needed it (like when the loaf of challah was chanting my name) and I also received support indirectly when I read inspiring #mamavation tweets that described the challenges and successes of the other moms. Some of the #mamavation tweets that I read this week reminded me to drink more water, some inspired me to eat an extra portion of veges. One inspired me to park my car far away from the store so I could get a few extra steps into my day.
I realize Mamavation = Mama + Motivation.
This week I realized Mamavation also equals…
Mama + Inspiration
Mama + Celebration
Mama + Collaboration
This Week’s Challenges
- Challah – My son brought home a loaf of Challah from preschool on Friday and it was a challenge to resist eating it. It was chanting my name all weekend. Instead of eating any, I allowed myself to simply be aware of how much I was physically and mentally reacting to a loaf-o-bread.
- Drinking Water – It was a challenge to drink water this week and I want to figure out how I can at least double the amount of water I’m drinking. Drinking water still feels like a chore instead of it being part of my natural routine.
This Week’s Successes
- Drinking Water – Even though I know I can drink more, I want to acknowledge that I did drink an above average amount of water this week and I’m all about celebrating baby steps.
- Exercise – More baby step successes…I worked out 3 times this week using Wii (45 minutes each time).
- Healthy Eating – I’m really proud of myself for all of my healthy eating choices this week. It was literally the first week in probably six months that was really full of healthy foods choices. No Chips. No Sweets. No Unhealthy Snacks. No Unconscious Eating. Lots of Fruit and Veges. I prepared all of my meals myself except Saturday night when I went out for Ethiopian food with my husband.
Sample Dinner: Rice, Cooked Carrots and Squash, and Low Fat Indian Sauce with Artificial Crab Meat
- Weight Loss – This week I lost 1.3 pounds.
My Mamavation Plan
- Goal: Lose 15 pounds and feel fit.
- Strategies as of 01/31/2010*:
- Be actively engaged with Mamavation
- Drink more water
- Exercise at least 3 times a week
- Eat only healthy food
- Watch my food portions
- Do not eat off of my children’s plates
- Celebration Milestones: I will celebrate my success every 3 pounds.
- Timeline: I will reach my goal by June 25, 2010.
- *Commitment to Myself: I commit to my strategies and I’m open to other strategies that may help me reach my goal if I get stuck along my journey.
Sistas of the Sistahood – I could have not have been successful last week without you! xoxox

Way to go on your first week. I LOVE roasting veggies. My kids do too, and that’s a big step for all of us.
I take my own baby steps. That’s the best way to make these good habits stick rather than rebounding to the bad ones!
You’ve got a great set of goals and they are very attainable. I look forward to readig your updates every week!
That dinner looks delicious! Keep up the good work, you’ll hit your next 3 lbs goal in no time! (I think I’m going to adjust my goals! 3 lbs is always doable!!)

You did a great job w/your baby steps! The water was hard for a lot of us & that is why it’s kind of a game on twitter. Sometimes I just chug it to get it over with(or if I’m behind). Keep up the good work!!
