Two Truths and a Lie

by Evolving Stacey on October 1, 2008

I thought it would be fun for the Create a Balance community to get to know each other a little better with the classic game of two truths and a lie. I’ll reveal my answers on Friday.

Stacey’s Two Truths and a Lie…

1. Oprah called me!
2. I was on a reality show on MTV!
3. I danced on stage with Billy Joel!

Leave your two truths and a lie in the comments section. Be sure to come back on Friday to reveal your two truths.

I believe I could distinguish your lies from your truth in a video so that I could observe your face and gestures and listen to your voice. The linguistic content of the three sentences as such reveals little about the nature of your deception skills (or lack thereof).

@ALL – I love reading your responses. This is very fun!

@Patricia – Great idea! I have been thinking about how to incorporate video into my blog. Thanks for the suggestion.

@Vered – I’m guessing your truths are spending a month in Beijing ten years ago and serving for 3 years as a lieutenant in the Israel Defense Forces.

@Maya – I’m guessing your truths are attending a 3 month long theatre program in London and speaking 4 languages.

@Davina – I’m guessing your truths are doing belly dancing and when Shirley MacLaine had her assistant call you.

@Carla – I’m guessing your truths are singing for a major chorus as an adult without ever having a voice lesson and working for over twelve companies in eleven years.

@Lance – I’m guessing your truths are having your first car accident before you were old enough to have a driver’s license and breaking your leg in three places while skiing in Colorado.

@MizFit – I’m guessing your truths are running the Chicago marathon and being Matthew Broderick’s personal trainer for a while.

1. I had an Australian tv celebrity hit on me at a bar
2. I was robbed at knife point in Mexico City
3. I was plucked off the street to be in a tv advertisement

Stacey, I’m thinking number 1 is your false answer, though yours are hard!

I just thought, do you say “Hit on me” in the US? It doesn’t mean punch, it means “made a pass” or tried to get me to go home with him.

Stacey / CreateaBalance October 2, 2008 at 10:10 pm

@Kelly – I’m guessing your truths are an Australian TV celebrity hit on you at a bar and that you were unfortunately robbed at knife point in Mexico City. And yes, “Hit on me” is used in the US. :)

You know…I’m having great difficulty with this game. I am finding it so so hard to lie. Not sure why…I’m already choking away here. I think I’d stay out until your next post. I can see it is fun for the rest, by the way!

Ha I’m late to this so I can already see which one is your truth, Stacey.
For me, um…
1. I got a black eye at a gay disco in 1981.
2. I got a black eye from a ski pomma in 1982.
3. I got a black eye from Oprah in 1983.

OK it’s not very good but I’m tired.

I’m so not good at this game.

1. I share the same birthday as Shakespeare.
2. I am a competitive ballroom dancer
3. I am a past president of the Ricky Martin fan club

Dave Jones, CPA October 3, 2008 at 1:44 pm

Here’s my shot.
1. I played professional baseball.
2. I met Robert Plant (lead singer for Led Zeppelin)
3. I am a CPA because I love doing accounting work.

…………Since I am so late and we are supposed to reveal our answers today number 3 is the lie. I am a CPA because I wasn’t very good at number 1.

Stacey / Create a Balance October 3, 2008 at 8:28 pm

@Evelyn – No worries. Thank you for sharing your reaction to this exercise.

@Simple Sapien – I’m guessing your truths are being born on the same day as Michael Jackson and having your brother saved your life when you were in middle school.

@Robin – I’m guessing your truths are black eyes at a gay disco and from skiing.

@Stacey Shipman – I’m guessing your truths are sharing the same birthday as Shakespeare and being a past president of the Ricky Martin fan club.

@Dave – I was going to guess #2 and #3. Thanks for humoring me with this exercise!

Stacey, I do play basketball (still!), but sadly, did not attend the Journalism School at Columbia. I quite enjoyed my time in Vienna, though. Thanks for doing this – very fun!
